You are required to obtain a fishing permit in order to fish in the lakes, dams and rivers of Bulgaria.

There are a number of fishing permits available to amateur anglers in Bulgaria:
• Annual fishing permit
• Six month fishing permit
• Monthly fishing permit
• Weekly fishing permit
• A fishing permit for disabled anglers - this permit is free of charge
• A fishing permit for women over 60 and men over 65 years old - 50% reduction
• A fishing permit for children under 14 - free of charge

Applications for a fishing permit can be made at the local offices of the
National Hunters’ and Anglers’ Union, the Tourist Office or in a fishing tackle store that is licenced to issue fishing permits on the behalf of the Union. An annual fishing permit costs appproximately £5.

The only document required is proof of identity.

The permit must be carried at all times when fishing.

These permits give the permit holder the right to fish anywhere in Bulgaria where fishing is allowed.
